What is Hot Desking?

Hot desking is a shared-desk model where workstations are used by different people at different times rather than assigned to individuals. It is the standard response to hybrid attendance: if only half the team is in on a given day, desks can serve double duty.

Strictly, hot desking is walk-up and first come, first served, while desk hoteling adds advance reservation. In practice most organisations run a hybrid: bookable desks with walk-up allowed for whatever is free.
