What is Duty of Care?

Duty of care is the obligation to take reasonably practicable steps to protect the health and safety of people affected by what your organisation does. In a workplace setting it extends beyond employees to contractors, visitors and anyone else on site.

Practically, it is why knowing who is in the building matters: you cannot account for people in an emergency, or show that you tried, without an accurate record.
