What is Space Standard?

A space standard is the planning ratio of floor area per person or per desk that an organisation designs to, typically expressed in square metres per workstation. Standards have tightened for decades as offices shifted from cellular to open to shared layouts.

In hybrid offices the standard splits in two: area per desk, and desks per employee (the desk sharing ratio). Multiplied together they determine your footprint, which is why small changes to either move real money.
