Which companies are back in the office five days a week, and which still run three? This return to office tracker lists confirmed RTO policies for major employers, one company at a time, with the effective date and a source you can open. It is updated monthly and every entry shows the month it was last confirmed.
The short version
- Five days is now the norm for the largest US employers: Amazon, JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Dell, AT&T, Home Depot, Stellantis and the US federal government.
- Four days is the middle ground for Starbucks, 3M, NBCUniversal, the Canadian banks and the Canadian public service.
- Three days holds at Microsoft, Google, Apple, Meta, Bank of America and US Bank, though several now police which days count.
- Every row carries the date it was last confirmed. If the confirmed date is older than a month, treat the policy as unverified.

How to use this tracker
Use it as a reference point, not a rule book. A return-to-office mandate at a bank with client-facing teams is a different decision from one at a software company, and most of the policies above carry exceptions for distance, role and personal circumstances. If you are writing your own attendance policy, the useful comparison is the employer closest to your sector and size, not the loudest headline.
Whatever the number, the office has to work on the days people are in. Team anchor days, bookable desks and rooms through hot desk booking software, and check-in data that shows who actually turned up are what separate a mandate that sticks from one that gets quietly ignored. For the wider picture on attendance and office use, see the return to office statistics post.
Frequently asked questions
What is an RTO mandate?
An RTO (return to office) mandate is a formal employer requirement that staff work from a company site for a set number of days per week, or full time. It usually names the effective date, who it covers and how attendance is checked.
How often is this tracker updated?
Monthly. Each company row shows the month its policy was last confirmed against a public source. If a policy changes between updates, the old entry stays until it is re-checked, so always open the source link before relying on a figure.
What is the difference between hybrid and RTO?
Hybrid work splits the week between home and office, typically two to three office days. An RTO policy is the employer’s instruction that sets or raises that minimum. A five-day RTO ends hybrid working; a three-day RTO is a hybrid policy with a floor.
