What is Right to Work Check?

A right to work check confirms a person is legally permitted to work in the country before they begin. The specific documents and process vary by jurisdiction, and the obligation usually sits with the employer rather than the site owner.

Where contractors are engaged directly rather than through a supplier, the check can fall to the engaging organisation, so it is worth being clear which party holds the obligation before work starts.
