Time in lieu means time off taken later instead of immediate overtime pay. In UK and Australian workplaces it is often shortened to TOIL: time off in lieu.
The important detail is the exchange rate and approval process: one extra hour worked does not always automatically equal one hour off later unless the policy says so.
