What is Facilities Manager?

A facilities manager is responsible for buildings and the services that keep them safe, compliant, comfortable and cost-effective: maintenance, cleaning, security, space, contractors and compliance. The discipline splits into hard services (the building fabric) and soft services (the people-facing ones).

Hybrid work pushed data into the centre of the role: an FM who knows real utilisation can right-size cleaning contracts, close floors on quiet days and defend the property budget with evidence. The FM without data negotiates on anecdote.
